This weeks travel

So this weekend is the first week since January 9th that I haven't gone anywhere... Didn't feel like sitting at home all day, so I decided to travel to..............Cambridge! Feel like I've traveled all over the UK, doing tourist stuff, but still haven't seen so much of my own city, so Helene and I decided to be tourists in Cambridge! We started with riding our bikes along the beautiful Cam river.. Stopped a ways up the river and watched all the university boys rowing by...Rowing is very popular here, so we saw at least 20 boats..  Then we walked up to the marked place in town and walked trough all the stalls selling everything from muffins to mirrors. Bought  me another Cambridge University sweater and a book to read this summer. We ate lunch and then we went up the tower of St. Mary's church and we got a great view across all of Cambridge. Took a few pictures up there and then went down again and took the Cambridge sightseeing bus. That was a lot of fun. I've pretty much seen all the places the bus stopped at, but learned a lot about the city from the audio tour guide. Did you know that the official soccer rules were written down in Parker's Piece in Cambridge? It's a park in the middle of town, and many years ago there were so many different rules of soccer everywhere, so some teachers from the universities gathered in the park to write down and agree on the official rules. The official length that should be between the goal posts was decided by measuring the lenght between two threes in the park, and that measurement is still used world wide today as well as the rules! I thought that was pretty cool! After the bus tour we finished off with buying some Cambridge souvenirs and just walking around taking pictures of everything really.   And of course took the typical telephone box picture
It was a beautiful day and the sun was shining. Oh how I love my city <3

The mathematical bridge
It is said that Sir Isac Newton designed and built it without the use of nuts and bolts back in the 1700's. One time some students of the University attempted to take the bridge apart and try to put it back together, but the could not figure out how to do it, so in the end they had to use nuts and bolts to hold the structure together..

I'm Back!

Hi all... Well I'm back from my holiday. Despite Iceland and their volcano which meant a plane ride which should have taken one hour, turned into 11 hours on the bus, I had an amazing week in Ireland and Scotland... I really don't know where to start... We did and experienced so much and I have exactly 2335 pictures to prove it... haha, so picking out 6-7 pictures to put on the blog which sums up the trip is impossible.. And writing about everything we did would take hours... And I really don't have time for that.. So... To sum everything really quick and just add some random pictures, cause I honestly can't go through 2335 pictures to pick out the best ones, here it goes:

We were four days in Ireland and we had a great time there. Went to the Guinness brewery, Dublin Castle, Trinity College, saw Molly Malone, a Wax museum, Hard Rock cafe, walked around the Temple bar area, went shopping, met a leprechaun ++ this probably doesn't mean anything to you unless you've been to Dublin, but they are typical tourist things to do.. On the last day in Ireland we went on a day trip to this place called Glendalough. That was my favorite part of the trip. We had an amazing tour guide named Tommy and he was a very stereotypical Irish man. Quite loud, but so friendly and was talking and singing, joking and playing Irish music the whole way up there. We thought we were just going to Glendalough, but the trip was actually more about getting up there and stopping along the way. We made several stops, and the nature was just absolutely amazing! So beautiful. We also stopped at some movie locations which had been shot in Ireland, like "Braveheart" with Mel Gibson and one of my favorite movies, "P.S I Love you."  that was really cool!  So that was a really nice day. When I think of Ireland I think of green fields and beautiful mountains, so it was good to get out of the city and see some Irish countryside.

Next off was Scotland. First we were in Edinburgh, then went up to Aberdeen, then took the train to Inverness, and the last stop was Glasgow. I have to say Inverness was my favorite city of all of them, even though everybody says Edinburgh is the nicest city in the UK. In Inverness we  rented mountain bikes and cycled all the way to Lock Ness. 50 km all together!! A very long and exhausting day, but so worth it. The Scottish highlands are so, so beautiful and riding over the mountain we got some great views. It took 4 hours to get to the Loch but it was all worth it in the end.  Seeing the famous lake and Nessie. (well we at least looked for her.) We finished up the day with Nachos in Inverness.. And not with just any topping..Haggis!! Haha since we were in Scotland, we had to try their national dish, which consists of a sheep's heart, lungs, liver and other yummy stuff.. haha, it actually wasn't that bad.. It wasn't good, but I had expected it to me much worse.  Well, I would love to tell you about all the other things we did in the other cities, but this post is getting quite long now, so I think I'll just leave it at that. We've had an amazing week and have experiences so much. I still didn't feel I haven't seen enough of Scotland and Ireland, so definitely have to go back one day!

Dublin tomorrow!

It is just so incredibly fantastically good with easter vacation! A break off from everything that has to do with school.. Well almost... Our teachers of course gave us homework to do over the vacation, but it's better then actually going to school, so I'm happy. I've had a good week so far. Haven't really done much.. Some homework, been with my friends, went to a concert, ate out, played pool and poker, went for a jog in the woods, went to the cinema and just relaxed. Tomorrow, or well in 5 hours we are going to DUBLIN! Yey! I've never been to Ireland before so that should be fun. We are 8 girls who are going there, and then we split up after 4 days and Karoline and I head for Scotland. We're flying to Edinburgh, spending two days there, then train up to Aberdeen, then Inverness (going to Loch Ness) and then down to Glasgow and flying home. Can't wait.. I (like you know) LOVE to travel so another adventure awaits and I'm really looking forward to it! See you in a weeks time.. Bye!

A day in Robin's city

FINALLY easter vacation. Really needed a break off from school! Been really busy the last couple of days with two presentations and one assignment before we could go on holiday yesterday, so haven't had the time to tell you about my trip to Nottingham last Sunday.

So... Sunday Helene and I were going to Nottingham.. Like I said, we've had a lot to do at school lately, so Saturday night I was sitting up quite late working on my English presentation. Didn't go to bed before 3.30... and when my alarm rang at 6.30... Well, I was sound asleep.. Woke up at 7.30, and the bus was leaving at 8... And it takes at least 20 minutes to ride my bike down to town... SHIT... so no surprise that we missed that bus... Sorry Helene!! Well, nothing left to do but wait for the next bus and hope the bus driver would let us on the bus if it wasn't full.. Bus drivers in England are really mean and angry.. At least them who drive for National express, so wasn't too hopeful. + that we didn't have insurance on the tickets... But we waited for one and a half hour, and finally the next bus came. We walked up to the driver and with our biggest puppy-dog eyes explained what had happened.. He as a drives of national express of course said that it was a pity for us and that it wasn't his problem. but luckily he said he was in a good mood, so he would let us on.. Puuh!

So we arrived in Nottingham 3 hours later and we had a great day there. I have to say it's one of my favorite cities in England. Not to big and not too small, and with a lot of charm.. Nottingham is as some of you might know, where Robin Hoods supposedly lived, and that was clearly portrayed  all over the town with pictures, statues, paintings++ But Nottingham was a lovely city and the sun was shining. Yet another great day.

Robin and I :-)
